We visited yesterday for a light lunch - superb.Originally built in the 16th century as a Sussex stone barn, progressing to become a preparatory school followed by soldiers accommodation in the 2WW and finally a pub / restaurant in 1947. Some trip through history !After some careful additions, it's now a beautiful single storey thatched restaurant / bar divided into 4 large eating areas. The main room is the Great Hall, adorned with a huge 17th century carved fireplace. Then you have the Gallery, Tudor Room and Orangery. Now to the good bit - prices. Very competitive for the area, starters are mostly under £5 and main dishes under £10. I must add though, it's not just pub grub but full restaurant standard. This even includes the staff who are dressed in traditional smart black and white.Tourists, car parking is round the back and I would suggest visiting for a drink / soup / sandwich initially. There is an enormous wine list and 4 real ales on the bar. You are also only 5 minutes walk from the sea. Finally, as a general rule, I'm not known to be generous with these 'star' ratings but if I was going to give any pub / restaurant the whole 5, this place and only 2 others would get them.

I eat here quite frequently with my partner, and we always enjoy a fabulous meal with attentive service. There's a wide choice on the regular menu plus a selection of specials and lovely puds.
