We are a museum of cotton spinning and stocking making, based in a Grade 1 Listed Mill building, at the centre of the beautiful Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. We also offer local and tourist information. We are open from 13.00 to 17.00 Weds to Sun in Summer (March to end of October) and from 13.00 - 17.00 Sat and Sun in Winter. We are also open on Bank Holidays and usually run a walk on Boxing Day. There is a small charge for visiting the museum which, as a registered charity, helps us to maintain the museum.
Strutt’s North Mill the world’s first ‘fire-proof’, water-powered, cotton spinning mill. Grade 1 listed. Award winning exhibits show spinning history and machinery, framework knitting, the ‘Derby Rib’ the great Brettles cotton and silk hosiery collection, chevening and nail-making. Extensive Strutt Worker’s housing and renown Belper River Gardens are nearby.
