World's first 'fire-proof' cotton spinning mill.

Strutt's North Mill at Belper in Derbyshire is the only museum in and at the centre of the Derwent Valley Valley Mills World Heritage Site. It is here that the Industrial Revolution began in the cotton spinning industry in the 1770s. Today the museum houses the world's first ‘fire-proof', water-powered, cotton spinning mill, Grade 1 listed . Award winning exhibits show spinning history and machinery, framework knitting, the ‘Derby Rib' attachment the great Brettles cotton and silk hosiery collection, chevening and nail-making.
