Strutt's North Mill at Belper in Derbyshire is the only museum in and at the centre of the Derwent Valley Valley Mills World Heritage Site. It is here that the Industrial Revolution began in the cotton spinning industry in the 1770s. Today the museum houses the world's first ‘fire-proof', water-powered, cotton spinning mill, Grade 1 listed . Award winning exhibits show spinning history and machinery, framework knitting, the ‘Derby Rib' attachment the great Brettles cotton and silk hosiery collection, chevening and nail-making. The extensive Strutt Worker's housing and renown Belper River Gardens and Town are nearby. See website for details. Tourist Information. Free parking.
I2n Belper town (8 miles north of Derby) at The Triangle. Junction of A6 and A517,Ashbourne Road. Enter car park just before the river bridge, drive straight ahead.
