I am usually a very calm person but my experience has compelled me to write an honest review. The quality of the food is not something I can comment on as I did not stay. My work takes me all around the country and to many wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) restaurants and cafes, but never have I felt so belittled or offended in any venue as I did when I visited this tea room. As soon as I stepped through the door, the looks on the faces of the staff lead me to question whether or not I should have been there. Was it a private party? Or had I walked in through the wrong door, perhaps? One waitress made eye contact with me, looked away, then looked back with an exasperated expression on her face and pointed at me while calling her colleague in a 'see to her' sort of manner. I followed her eyeline to where a gentleman smiled weakly from behind the counter. He opened his mouth to speak but then went about his work. Two more staff members arrived to flank him, staring at me in a most unfriendly manner. Finally, one of them skipped any greeting and simply asked 'yes?' It was like being dropped into some surreal world where manners were forgotten and the only thing on the minds of the staff was to make their customers feel most uncomfortable. I have never felt so out of place in such a humble and outwardly friendly place before. This was about 2pm and the place wasn't too busy so there is simply NO excuse. It's a shame; I looked forward to this visit so much in my break from the City but it was awful. A 1 star rating is all this place deserves in terms of customer service. Needless to say, I left the hostile, cold place before they could trouble themselves to offer me a drink...
