We have been going to this pub intermittently for a number of years. It became a favourite for us because it had good quality simple food and reasonable prices. Over the years this formula has clearly been a success for the pub whic has clearly grown. Unfortunately, judging from our recent visit, I would say it has grown too far. The service was grim 40 minutes from order to service is too long even on a busy Saturday lunchtime. On arrival one of the dishes was not as ordered. A seafood pasta had two mussels and three prawns in total. The so called steak burger tasted like no other burger I had ever tasted - I doubt it came from a cow. None of it justified the prices which are now grossly inflated to match those of pretentious city restaurants not country pubs. The staff did their best to make amends and the ambience remains good but we won't be going back sadly.

I've been going to this place on and off for a few years now (3/4 times a year), It's always busy,But we always get seated quickly enough. (It's great in the summer as there's seats outside and you can have a smoke with your tiple of choice in this new smoke free era we live in).The menu's always got a great mix of dishes on it and there's something for everyone at very reasonable prices. (They go up a bit in the summer)As does everywhere so it's not really a complaint,The food's always very nice I work in the industry myself and although Im not one to point it out when dining out or complaining,The chefs seem to know there stuff and the dishes are always well presented and very well balanced. The front of house staff were all very friendly (Considering we were all in our biker gear) Which has sometimes been a problem when we pop in for dinner on the way home from a sunday run in other places. The manageress was great to chat to and made us feel very welcome and chated away for a bit even though the place was busy, This is becoming a rare find these days in your city centre restaurants who's managers seem to have been trained by robots and are as warm as a bucket of ice!!!!.All in all a very nice place to spend a sunday afternoon with some freinds if your down that way I'd recomend the oldclub house over anywhere else in the local area,It catter's for a diverse range of people and does it very well indeed.
