The Ashvale Fish shop is a well known face in the North East. For three out of five years in the early nineties it won Scottish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year, climaxing with the British Award: after this it decided to retire from the competition. There is an adjoining restaurant to the takeaway, both serving from very similar menus. Parking is rather limited, so in peak times it can be difficult finding a space even with the member of staff outside directing traffic. The food itself is cooked in front of waiting customers, and generous portions are readily given. The staff all appear quite young, but are happy to help if a bit immature.

The Ashvale has been here for years, and also the home of the Ashvale Whale! A 1lb haddock delvered fresh that day. Good luck trying to finish it, you might have to reach for the Rennies after if you do!
