My wife booked a birthday lunch for me. We were offered a rotten table in the main thoroughfare which I refused and after some hassle we were given a rather better table. There was no reference to my birthday nor any special arrangement. There was nothing special about the service. we could not have a Kir Royale because they do not serve 'champagne' by the glass! Our food was Ok but no more. The plates for the John Dory were lukewarm and the fish was swimming in unnecessary garnish. We had pannacotta which had been adulterated with blueberries which turned it grey - how appetising was that? I queried this and was told that was because of the blueberries -ding ding! Altogether this was a disappointing experience and we would have been treated much better at our local pub. Not again thank you and no recommendations to our friends - what an expensive pity.

We visit da Vinci once a month and have done since they opened last year. On entering you are greeted warmly and shown through to the dining area where you will find a mixture of Italian and english staff. The chef owner and his wife run the restaurant alongside their manager salvatore. During the week there is a wonderful ambiance of soft lighting and soothing Italian music which makes way at the weekends for a busy bustling atmosphere reminiscent of a bustling cafe in Rome. The staff are polite and efficient and salvatore is very attentive but never fills my wine glass too full as some restaurants do in order to achieve more sales. The whole experience is relaxed and elegant. Now for the food. Karl the Irish Italian chef owner certainly has a passion for food so much so you can almost taste it. All produce is locally sourced from around Wiltshire and is cooked with finesse. Wild mushrooms from Stockbridge and veal from a local farmer. Specails range from veal t bone to wild Atlantic salmon. The flavours are truly fantastic as karl reveals that he uses sambuka and other alcohol in a lot of his sauces. All fish is fresh daily and chicken dishes are moist and cooked to perfection. Desserts are home made and change daily. You may be lucky enough to fine when ferrero rocher cheesecake is on the menu. Da Vinci is a jewel in the crown and we are very lucky to have such a great restaurant close to us. We would reccomend them to anyone and have only one regret, that we can't eat there more often

With 3 friends we visited Da Vinci on a Saturday night and we paid our bill and 10 mins later the waiter came back and said we hadnt enough money down, which we were sure we had put enough in, anyway we put the £10 that we were supposed to be short back in and then the waiter came back AGAIN, pulled up chair armed with large calculator telling us we were still short and we were not. We counted out the cash etc and he then admitted he was wrong, had a long day etc. But, we thought it was absolutely awful how he pulled up chair with calculator rather than take one of us aside discretly. We would never rip them off, or underpay and we felt like that was how we were being seen. We put him straight and left, but it left such a sour taste in our mouths that we will not go back or recommend them again. Food was ok, but quite pricey for what you get and I can think of better italians in Salisbury that I would rather spend my money now!
