What is shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy based on the same principles as acupuncture. Except that instead of needles the treatment uses the hands to work the energy channels of the body.

Shiatsu treatments are given at floor level. You lie on a futon mattress for comfort. Additional padding such as blankets or cushions can be added as needed. If you cannot lie on the floor then shiatsu can be given in a massage chair.

Shiatsu is a form of massage therapy given through the clothes. No messy oils. No need to strip off in front of a total stranger.

How is shiatsu different?

Shiatsu looks at the body and mind as a complete system. Information and energy should flow easily around it to maintain good health.

Pain and illness occurs when this flow is blocked. This can be as the result of an injury, a virus or emotional strain. Whatever the cause the result is a whole range of symptoms from joint pains, digestive issues and stress, anxiety or depression.

Shiatsu is gentle and relaxing. It uses holding, pressing, stretching and movement to open up the body's energy systems. Shiatsu treatments help you relax but also support and encourage your natural healing processes.
