Why Recycle Your Metal?

In these cash strapped times nobody objects to making a few extra pounds and if you can help the environment at the same time everyone wins! Metal recycling is big business, and Sussex boasts a scrap metal dealer in almost every town.

Many of these dealers are mobile, which means they are happy to collect large loads, plus all grades (ferrous and non-ferrous) of ‘scrap' metal, everything from cars to building waste! Metal is weighed and assessed, and what is useless to you is then taken by the dealer.

As well as general scrap metal, ‘precious' metals such as gold and silver can also be recycled and earn you pennies. Gold prices have been booming for a while, and your old earring backs, broken necklaces and bracelets will be weighed and assessed in a similar manner.

Silver is less favourable at the moment but this is a possible growth market, and it is still possible to recycle, whether via a ‘scrap' metal route, or by selling in your local free ads. The local tip will usually have an area designated to metal recycling if you prefer to get rid of all your waste in one go, and your council can advise on disposal if you have questions.

If it is your car you are planning on recycling make sure you find a licensed scrap metal merchant, as this will ensure your car is recycled according to the law i.e. no toxic oil tipped down the drain, and no metal sent to the landfill. Make sure you get your DVLA Certificate of Destruction so there are no fines in the post!
