I have just visited Thai Elephant in Leamington for the first time....and i hate to say (because i love food!) it was appaling. We visited on a Sunday evening and got seated straight away. The decor was very nice.....overkill on the plants which made it very humid inside. Bit like a sweaty greenhouse. Drinks were expensive, £3.30 for a 'Coke can' size of Thai beer. I had a pint of Strongbow, the price was £2.50, which is not bad, but watered down:-( When i asked for a half for my second drink the waiter told me that they do not do halves......the table next to me had just had a half!!Starters, we had Chicken Satay & Crispy Duck. The portions were served up for a Barbie Sized diner (no offence to those who eat little). Tasted ok....but i prefer oven cooked duck, not fried! And satay chicken tasted like it was fresh out of Sainsbury's.Mains were Seafood Special 'Sizzler' & Sweet & sour Chicken 'Sizzler' Only thing was, they were not 'sizzling' when they came to our table, but just luke warm. And completely tasteless. So, to sum it up, the bill came to £46.50. That was for 1 crispy duck (3 pancakes) 1 chicken satay (3 skewers) 1 sweet & sour chicken, 1 seafood special, 1 rice, 2 strongbow and 1 vodka & tonic. We gave £50 in cash....they didn't even attempt to bring the change back to us. They were that arrogant enough to assume that was a tip. That was the most annoying thing. If you like oriental food, there are a couple of FAR superior places to visit than Thai Elephant. I feel i shouldn't mention them, but just look on the web.All in all, a very dissapointing visit. One to avoid, i'm afraid to say.

Many Thai restaurants are based on theme of Chinese, but the Thai Elephant offers an interestingly wide choice in intimate surroundings. Very nice indeed!
