We were served packet pasta sauce
Really disappointed. The starter consisted of limp salad and over toasted bread for pate. The main pasta tasted odd, when questioned we were informed that it was out of a packet. The manager then argued when we refused to pay for the food (we did not eat the main). Would not go back!

Poor food but popular restaurant
For a starter the Bruschetta was disappointing, not a good sign really as it's such a simple thing. For what it was it was severely overpriced, obviously not grilled on a brustolina and the use of out of season tasteless tomatoes was an unusual choice for a supposed authentic Italian restaurant. I had the chicken livers next and they were not fresh but cooked from frozen, just like the cheap ones you can purchase in any supermarket – a small addition to the menu describing where the chickens came from etc would be good. I looked at the dessert menu in despair and did not order. No simple delicious Italian deserts but the type of menu you see in any large pub chain, pre prepared and packed ready to defrost...awful. If I were an Italian chef I would feel ashamed to serve such food and say it is representative of my country, the home of simple, fresh, delicious food. The restaurant was very busy and appears to be often so I assume that they cater well to the Sunderland palate. Perhaps if they change the menu to fresh and authentic from bland dried pasta dishes and pizza then they would lose business.
