Restaurant - Spanish in Wallington (Surrey)
El Nido Restaurant

I can't recognise this restaurant from the poor review below. I've been going there for ten years, and the consistent high quality of the food, the very varied and reasonable set menu, the excellent dishes on the main menu, and above all the warm welcome from the family who run it, however many tables are occupied, keeps me going back for more. We've had family functions with large parties there too, and I've been impressed by how the staff coped. I've eaten in many good restaurants, but El Nido remains one of my all-time favourites. Highly recommended!

My husband and I decided to try this local restaurant - after some glowing reviews. We were ignored by the staff. Served mediocre food, which was over priced considering the quality.Bizzare experience that put us off returning. Combined with an indifferent attitude of the staff. Perhaps because we were one of only 2 tables that night? No excuse.

This Spanish restaurant is situated about a minutes walk from the station and is right on the main road but it is very quiet inside. On this inside, the tables are all fairly small so if there are just two of you, you will certainly feel quite cramped. The food is very good though. They offer a variety of meat and fish dishes but it isn't what you'd normally see so you get to try something different. They have set meals as well but these are very limited as you'd expect.Food is all quite expensive however with a meal for 2 costing around £40 including a bottle of wine. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

According to the sign-age, El Nido is a Spanish restaurant. Maybe it's my ignorance, but I was expecting more dishes that you'd find on a tapas menu. Having said that, the £14.95 set priced 3 course menu was a delight. My starter of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was really tasty. The trout with butter and parsley sauce which followed was also very very nice. The chocolate cake that finished off the evening was light and moussy. We quaffed back a 1/2 bottle of Rioja with the meal, which was really the only Spanish thing we had all night. The place seems to be family run and had a wonderfully inviting, lively atmosphere. If you don't enjoy the set menu, your bill could get very expensive very quickly, as the cheapest main course is around £12 alone.

Recently moved from Mitcham to Carshalton and started exploring the local eating places. Obviously a family run business, and all the better for that I say. Dont remember eating the food, I was that hungry and the food that tasty. Purports to be a Spanish restaurant but very little Spanish fare. But lots of French and English dishes. It is a popular Restaurant of a meduim size, and if you want to eat on Saturday evening you are risking not getting a table if you dont book first. Says a lot that. Prices are reasonable for the quality of this restaurant. I would reccomend it and have been back for a second and third visit. I suppose the only thing missing is a strong personality of the owner and/or your waiter. The relationship and banter between client and Host is a stong pull for many, me included.
