Great Night Out
Having read some previous review i thought i would find out for myself, as its close to home, what i love is the fact that its still a great traditional Pub, but with amazing quality dining, the staff were friendly and attentive, the beers great, but it was the food that won out, no its not the cheapest Pub dinner, but then this isn't really a pub, its a fantastic restaurant, disguised as a an old fashioned pub, i went for the potted duck, then the steak pie, but secretly wanted to dive into the home made pork crackling, with black sheep ale the table next to us had.

My expectations were high , having been to the sister place , the albion in islington.I was disappointed. The service was off hand and indifferent. My guest and I were left standing at the entrance of the half empty restaurant for exactly 12 minutes, ignored by both the waiter who was busy with his computer and the manager who was busy extolling his own virtues to his friends at one of the few occupied tables.Once we did get attention and a table (which we had booked days in advance although they seemed to have no record) the focus on the service seemed to be to sell as much wine as possible.The menu is short and innovative "jamie oliver" type english food. good quality ingredients and competently cooked. The wine list is good and the choice by the glass exceptional for this part of the home counties. Prices are high eg £85 for two people for two courses and two glasses of wine.The place is well rennovated with original oak beams and hardwood traditional furniture and floors. Atmosphere is posh country pub but the prices are high for what is offered and the service is abysmal.
