About

About Us

Hawley Place represents our vision of a good family school where children can be encouraged, stimulated and supported. Their skills and talents will be recognized and nurtured whatever they are. Courtesy, kindness and consideration (the “3C's") are the cornerstones of our ethos, helping us to create the right atmosphere for your child's social and academic development.

The three sections of the school – Nursery, Junior and Senior- offer opportunities for continuity of education for boys from 2-11 and for girls from 2-16 crossing several important and different Key Stages. In the Nursery, experienced and well qualified staff help young children to settle into school life, develop their independence and build up a love of learning coupled with a natural inquisitiveness. By the age of 11 children are confident and very knowledgeable, having acquired a wide range of interests and skills, as well as an eagerness to continue learning and discovery. They are well prepared to move on happily and successfully to their secondary education. Our Senior School takes girls through their early teens in a single sex environment, encouraging excellence in all spheres of school life and giving a solid preparation for post sixteen studies.

Our Aims

We also care passionately about our parents, working in a genuine partnership, with the child's best interests always at heart. Whatever stage of education your child has reached, we are happy to discuss progress, achievements and aspirations both formally and informally.

We hope you enjoy navigating your way around our website, which gives you a snapshot of the school's organization and the many exciting activities and opportunities offered at Hawley Place School.

Afterwards, please do come and meet us and see the children at work. Our door is always open and you will find us friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Nursery Ethos

Our Nursery School provides full and part-time care and education for boys and girls aged 2-4 with an enviable staff to pupil ratio of 1:6 or lower. We offer flexible sessions to suit individual needs with wrap-around care (8.00 am – 6.00 pm).

Our teachers are well qualified and very experienced. They are fully committed to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) themes and principles, focusing on the children's intellectual, linguistic, physical, creative, emotional and social development. In both classes, children are given ample opportunities to learn through games and imaginative play, whether indoors or outdoors in a completely secure, caring and homely environment.

We give a very gentle and purposeful start to the formal education process, combining purposeful play and a solid educational structure. Our main aim is to ensure the happy, all-round development of each child through a wide and balanced range of interesting and challenging experiences.

Junior Ethos

We place great emphasis on creating the right ethos for learning. We blend the 3Rs (reading, writing and arithmetic) with the 3Cs (courtesy, kindness and consideration). Children work and play hard, strive for excellence and are encouraged and rewarded for achievements, effort and good behaviour through the House Points System. Within a happy atmosphere, we value and develop all the skills and talents of individual pupils and staff. Teachers use a broad range of teaching strategies to ensure children remain focused and challenged, with the arts, sport, languages and ICT promoting ‘all-round' development. Academic examinations and tests are important, but young children really need to be properly prepared for the next stage in their education. We believe in strengthening the ‘whole person', with broader skills and positive attitudes.

Senior Ethos

Our Senior School takes girls from their early teens through to their GCSE studies, preparing them for their post sixteen education, in a single-sex and strongly supportive family environment, permitting full focus on study.

We combine first-class teaching with unusually high levels of individual care and attention in enviably small classes. This is supported by a school ethos which encourages and rewards effort, achievement and good behaviour. Our GCSE results are consistently impressive. We provide every girl with a rounded education, catering for her own needs and abilities, developing her widest interests and strengths and enabling her to develop into a confident, happy, and successful student.

We give the broadest opportunities for academic learning and for developing strong life skills. We provide a broad curriculum with a combination of solid, core academic subjects, specialised and relevant expertise in ICT, languages and science and a fully integrated programme of sports, arts, and extra-curricular activities.

We believe that a good education fosters and values courtesy and manners. Our community activities also give the girls many valuable experiences, helping them to make informed choices about the next stage of their education.
