About

About Us

Sodablasting and Sandblasting - Paint stripping and blast cleaning. Sodablasting looks like sandblasting but removes paint in a different way to grit blasting. Soda is eco friendly, water soluble and is not damaging to the base material. ie. safe to strip paint and other contaminates from wood, stone, brick, all metals including aluminum, copper, steel, galvanizing, etc - will not damage glass, rubber or hard plastics. There are many applications where grit blasting is inappropriate. We also do grit blasting when required.

Soda Blasting is the Eco-Friendly and Surface Safe method of blast cleaning.

Back in 1972, when New York State engineers were looking for ways to clean the Statue of Liberty, they had many concerns involving issues of the environment, waste disposal, and protection of the statues surface itself. Any use of any abrasive material to clean the surface would have been very harmful to the soft copper plates, let alone the waste in the water surrounding the statue. Soda blasting was invented because it would not only do the job while having a negligible impact on the waterways and harbour, but it was also non-abrasive. The Statue was successfully cleaned in the 1980's and since then, Soda Blasting and its numerous benefits has become the preferred method of blast cleaning in most applications.

How it Works:

Soda Blasting involves projecting non-abrasive sodium bicarbonate (Baking Soda) against the surface to be cleaned using compressed air. Sodium bicarbonate particles remove contaminants by means of the energy released when the soda particles 'explode' (crush) on contact with the surface. The non-abrasive energy transfer action allows it to lift any contaminate off most surfaces such as aluminium, steel, stainless steel, brick, sandstone, marble, glass, fibreglass, wood, plastic, bearings, seals, hydraulic cylinders and more. And, the underlying base surface will not be damaged or eroded which sounds unbelievable, but it's true. The key concept to understand is that soda is not an abrasive substance and as such it is removing the unwanted surface material in a completely different way to sandblasting or pressure washing methods.
