Lightning Motorcycle Training was formed in January 2000. It is based in Oxford as a limited company, concerned with provision of moped, scooter and motorcycle training. The three founding directors brought 15 years of motorcycle training experience to this enterprise. Lightning was very lucky to take over the site of a now defunct training school at the Oxford Stadium. The Oxford Stadium has been the site of motorcycle training for nearly 20 years. The company was founded on the premise of providing reasonably priced and easily packaged training at all levels to the public. Provision was also made to develop a symbiotic relationship with local motorcycle dealers, for both our mutual benefit and to assist the public in getting on to two wheels. While the product is reasonably priced it was also determined that the level of tuition and equipment should be of the highest standard. This is reflected in the high pass rate for full licences and in the level of recommendation that Lightning has received from previous students. As of January 2012 we have trained more than 18,000 students.

Getting A Bike Licence

There has never been a better time to buy a bike, there are some amazing deals out there at the moment. It is cheaper, it is quicker and there is a lot more leather! Get a licence now and enjoy getting to work cheaply (especially if your trip to work takes you anywhere near the Olympic Games or the Diamond Jubilee) particularly now so many modern motorcycles are fuel injected (80 - 1--mpg). No need to panic but the law is set to change in January 2013 making getting a licence ever more complicated and expensive.

Our Services

As a company we put the well-being of our customers and employees first. Nothing matters more than people should feel welcome and relaxed while learning important life-saving skills. The comments on our forum more than testify that we have succeeded. Once you have found out what course you need, you will be given a list of components. You can check availability for these under the Course Availability section. All the prices quoted include motorcycle/moped hire, fuel, insurance, safety helmet, gloves and waterproofs. The cost includes the tuition and a damage waiver for the motorcycle/moped hire. The cost also includes, where applicable, the CBT, Theory Test and Motorcycle Test (Module 1 and 2). All the courses are guaranteed, which means that in the case of a Full/Restricted licence course if you don't pass all the further training is done at a subsidized rate (30% off). In the case of the CBT if you don't complete the course in one day all further training is charged at £75.00 per day including motorcycle/moped hire.

Advanced Training

Having passed your CBT, Theory Test and Motorcycle Test the prospect of taking more tests is probably not the most pressing issue. However, it is a sad fact that motorcyclists are very vulnerable, and that particularly those who have just passed their test or are coming back to motorcycling after a break are prone to having more accidents than most. Happily, you can do something about this state of affairs. Firstly, you can reduce the cost of your insurance. Secondly, you can keep the value of your motorcycle. Thirdly, you can retain your "no claims bonus" (not forgetting that claims for your motorcycle will affect any car insurance you may have). Finally, you can preserve, you're almost impossible to value, state of your health. To achieve this you will need to take some form of Advanced Training. How far you go is completely up to you; but it is no exaggeration to say that as you learn more your appreciation and enjoyment of motorcycling will grow proportionately.
