AWFUL!

So all in all they misinformed me; promised items that are not even in production anymore; asked me to leave the store 10 minutes prior to the closing time even though I had already made a decision about what I wanted to purchase (meaning that I missed out on the half price offer), just because they wanted to get home early; accused me of lying on multiple occassions; made rather sarcastic comments. I felt almost bullied by them, despite the fact that I remained polite and courteous throughout. I was offered no help and no welcome in the store.

On Monday 3rd January 2011 which was a bank holiday, so we were clearly aware shops would be closing earlier than normal, we arrived at the store at around 3:40pm (the store was due to close at 4pm), as there was 20 minutes we made the assumption that we had enough time to browse a little before making our purchase. We entered the shop and had a look at the wallpaper and asked the woman stood by the door if the sale on the wallpaper was on for long. She informed us that it was the last day of the sale and that they had the wallpaper in stock in the shop, in cerise and blue. I decided that as it was the last day I would like to have the blue and asked if it was too late to buy (she had already put they keys in the door indicating that she was locking up, although at this point it was still only ten to four). She said it should be ok and asked how many rolls we would like? We replied we would only want 5 rolls for now, at which point she proceeded to look at her watch and informed us that actually they had to close exactly on time tonight so they would not be able to serve us and asked us to leave. At this exact same time another customer came to the door who said they had spoken on the phone about purchasing something and was she too late? She was greeted with smiles and told of course she wasn't and to go on in. My Mother was horrified by this different treatment of customers and made the decision she would not return to this store (thinking that Bicester or Stratford might have better customer service), however I felt that it may have been just a ‘blip' in the service and that she must have just been having a bad day, so I made the decision to return to the store the following day. On the Tuesday morning, I had found the blue Toile material online and so assumed that as the store had told me they had the wallpaper in store, they would also have the set. When I went to the store they were unbelievably rude. Firstly a different woman to the one we had spoken to before looked it up online and said I was mistaken as they did not have anything in blue Toile on the website. I apologised for the inconvenience and said maybe it was an old web page, and she told me it was a live site and that I couldn't have been looking at it. I informed them that the day before a woman had told me they had the blue Toile in store, she said that she knew what they have upstairs so I was wrong and then, and I quote, “Did she even work here?” with a giggle. I said yes, she had the keys in her hands and I proceeded to describe her (late 30s or 40s, shoulder length hair). I was then informed that the only people there yesterday was a very young girl and a woman in her 50s with chin length hair so I must be wrong. I was horrified at being repetitively being effectively called a liar. I stayed polite throughout, but kept getting insulted with sarcastic comments, when I asked about how long it takes to serve a customer explaining the 15 minutes apparently not being long enough the evening before (which I understand, working myself in a shop where the store room is time-consuming when trying to find items!), her response was “No, its that some people have trains to catch, you know?”, although one of her colleagues added that they had to be extra careful with their opening hours on the bank holiday.
