Ask anyone who likes Curry in York for a recommendation and The Viceroy won't be far from the top of any list. It's been part of the Curry circuit for over 25 years and through constant evolution and reinvention has kept itself as in demand now as when it first opened as a one narrow roomed restuarant back in the '80's.They've followed some good basic rules of the trade - keep your food constantly excellent and up to date, treat regulars like friends, visitors as long lost friends and deliver value for money. Needless to say they do all of the above very well. The menu is varied and the food constantly well above average with several dishes bordering on excellent. The waiters are faultlessly friendly and always greet with a smile. This original has spawned the Jinnah empire, which the clever old things have extended to other nationalities such as Ceasars Italian restauarant down the road and a Hotel. The owners always pop in each night to survey the scene and early evening trade is always brisk reinforcing the notion that Curries are not just for post 8-pint nights out and that the real star in this place is the food.Enjoy...
