About

Jaipur Spice

We are a family run group of Indian restaurants who have been creating authentic Indian cuisine for residents and visitors to the York area for over 25 years. Our journey began with the opening of our first Indian restaurant - The Indian Ocean, back in 1986, which draws regular custom from locals who have been visiting the restaurant for many years.

Our flagship Indian restaurant has to be the Jaipur Spice in Easingwold, with a modern menu, excellent wine list and private rooms available for private parties, it offers the very best of what the Jaipur Spice Group has to offer.

Is not good for parties of over 4 people

I went recently as part of a party of 20. Our meal was scheduled for 8pm - we did not get our starters until just after 9pm. These were between a table of 4 4 onion bhajis, 4 pieces of a chicken kebab, 2 pieces of a lamb kebab and 2 pieces of another chicken kind of kebab. I personally eat vegetarian when I go out and was left to eat 1 onion bhaji. The main courses came, - between 3 people (not counting myself as the vegetarian option), there were 3 small plates of pilau rice and 2 bowls of a chicken "tikka masala"no idea|) and 1 lamb dish (also unknown) both served in small ceramic bowls. I naan bread was chopped up into small slivers for 4 people. I had the vegetarian option. This consisted of a bowl of onions with a piece of red pepper, a piece of green pepper and 1 green bean in. I complained and very reluctantly they provided what was supposed to be included in the meal - palak aloo. This was overcooked and tasteless. Not a place to be recommended for parties as they very obviously could not cater for this large group. I have no idea if it is better to go back as a small party (2 or 4) but I have no desire, after this experience, to try it.Also, if in a large party, make sure you know the drinks prices as several of our party were overcharged for their drinks.

Very nice ambiance and the food is good too. My only critisism is the fact the the curries come in white ceramic bowls which in my opinion are not very authentic.
