Canopy Doors

Canopy doors, also known as "up and and over garage doors" are the most common form of door. They lift up and slide back into the roof space, leaving a portion of the lower half of the door exposed creating a canopy.

Typically a manually operated door, good quality canopy doors can be fitted with an electrical kit to convert into automated up and over door. In order for canopy doors to be fully automated you do also require a canopy bow arm converter kit, which provides a gentle lift from the lower half of the door allowing the door to reach it's final "up and over position".

Retractable Doors

Similar to canopy doors, retractable garage doors also lift up and slide back into the roof space. The main difference being that the door slides completely back into the roof leaving no canopy. A large portion of the door swings outwards before retracting into the roof and therefore a little more room is required in front of the door.

Retractable door are becoming the most popular type of door as they can be easily and safely automated. They are smoother and easier to operate. They can be used for garage openings of 8ft (2438mm) or more.

Most manufacturers offer 2 and 4 point locking options. If the door is automated, these latches are disabled and the door is held securely by the motor. Retractable doors are available in timber, steel, GRP and ABS.
