The nearby World Museum Liverpool holds extensive cultural collections from the Amazonian Rain Forest to the mysteries of outer space.
Also in the city centre, the award-winning National Conservation Centre on Whitechapel is unique in presenting how museums care for their collections to the public.
Reflecting the international importance of Liverpool as a gateway to the world, the Merseyside Maritime Museum brings the city's seafaring heritage to life in the historic Albert Dock. In the same building you will find the Customs & Excise Museum, tracing the exciting story of the age-old battle between smugglers and duty men from 1700 to the present day.
Outside the city centre, the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight and Sudley House in Mossley Hill house 18th and 19th century artworks (note that Sudley is temporarily closed for refurbishment).
