Caring groomers
The account given below is unfortunately inaccurate. As the owner of Smart Pets I feel an explanation is necessary. On arrival, & during initial assessment of Mrs Davies golden retriever, it was apparent how bonded he was with his owner, & how timid he was with me this being his first visit to my salon. Having completed a record card & discussed details with Mrs Davies she left her dog for his grooming. Due to his nervousness this dog was allowed a period of time to wander in the grooming room, meeting staff, & hopefully settling into the environment before we started working with him. He didn't fully relax but knowing time was an issue for this owner the bathing procedure was started. This dog became more distressed & anxious despite constant attempts to soothe & reassure him. As a qualified veterinary nurse & dog groomer I am not comfortable to work with dogs who are suffering & displaying stress. I felt the kindest option for this dog was to stop the grooming procedure & return him safely to his owner. I requested the owner listen to my account of her dogs experience in order that she understood & advised grooming in her home for his benefit in future. It is rare to find an owner who would complain that a groomer didn't continue working on a dog who was distressed to achieve the trim they desired!

When i first got there i was quite impressed as i had to fill in a treatment card explaining any problems my pet had. I explained about a couple of physical problems he had and also told the lady that i did'nt want him going in to a box dryer as he had had a bad experience with one of these before. I also said he was'nt keen on having his head dryed so to send him home damp rather than upset him. 2 hours later i recieved a phone call telling me to come and collect him also saying she was dubious about what i had said about the box dryer as they can't hurt dogs. When i got there i asked for his lead and she was unwilling for me to have this until she had had her say. My dog was washed but was told they had struggled with this, also he had not had his fur cut. My dog has been regularly groomed for 6 years by a lady who has retired she had no trouble. When i was leaving i was told to pay £20 for the shampoo which i refused. The man then followed me out the shop and was shouting at me in the street also threatening to have me black listed from groomers in my area. I then went back in to the shop to pay because i felt intimidated. They told me they could'nt accept a card payment so i could'nt pay. I did get an appology for the way i was shouted at in the street. I was also told if i had my dogs best interest at heart i would do exactly as they said.

Excellent service. Very friendly & helpful owners. My dog loved it & came out looking & smelling great!
