Went back for more

Returned for dinner last night.Great bread as usual with nice tasting oil too.The platter had good quality meats, cheese, anchovies and pate with more bread. The garlic mushroom and flatbread was fantastic. However the salad dressing was too thick and was too fishy for my taste. But sin of sins the salad leaves were old tired and browning so a step down from my previous review.Service was good at the table but poor at reception with too many staff chatting to each other for my liking.Could do better!

An amazing dining experience!

Wow where to start! It was mine and my wife's first year anniversary and being the Xmas booking season a lot of places were fully booked. At this point I'm starting to panic as I wanted to really make this evening classy and special. To cut a long story short a friend reccomends the White horse in bearsted! It turned out they had spaces so I reluctantly agreed to take the booking. I stress to you I had know idea about this restaurant so you could say I was pretty nervous. As we arrived in the car park I collapsed in my seat. It looked like a typical country pub (I was planning on going to jamie Oliver's restaurant in London prior to this but was fully booked). It was only when we got inside that I let out a sign of relief as it is truly amazing. Lighted Fireplaces, great decoration fitting the Whitehorse theme, it is the perfect place to spend a romantic evening. Then we were called into the restaurant and our jaws dropped in amazment as we were taken to the second of three floors on the way to our table (of course I had to look like I'd reserched every restaurant in England so I quickly re- composed myself). The restaurant looks modern whilst somehow keeping a traditional theme about it and it contrasts so well with the bar. Once we'd ordered our food (prices avaraged around 12 pounds a meal-I had lamb rump whilst my wife had a duck salad) we were brought over some bread and oil (nothing spectacular about that I know) but the bread was so good my wife had to ask where they got it from! The food came out and my word everything little item of food looks like it has been strategicly placed on the plate I have to compliment the chefs there who'd done a wonderful job. Then the desserts came which were once again so well presented me and my wife spent a couple of minutes taking pictures. All in all was a great night... Will most certainly visit again. Only downside was the pint of peroni I ordered... £3.75 a pint!! Thank you to all of White horse for making our anniversery so memorable.

Not really built for comfort

Lovely looking, fairly expensive and not exactly comfort food.Dont be suprised if your handful of chips and tiny tapas costs you a fair penny. I am not saying the food is not good, it is lovely, but it gives you a cold appreciation of food, not that warm hearty inside feeling.I have to say the staff are not that warm either, you can get the feeling that they don't think that much of you.Its nice, and the interior is very very impressive (the shiny surfaces in the toilet cubicals are odd), but if you are that close its worth walking across the green to The Oak on the Green.Mx

White Horse - Bearsted

Service

Following a very tasteful refurbishment the White Horse is no longer a Beefeater Restaurant. The décor is clean, simple and stylish and very well done. Whilst still retaining the pub/public bar area the restaurant is nicely separate. It has a large car park and is situated on the picturesque green at Bearsted just outside Maidstone. The menu whilst not large is extensive enough to ensure that there is something for everyone's tastes (see their website www.thewhitehorsebearsted.co.uk) . From what we saw and sampled I think that it is fair to say that they have decided to concentrate on a smaller ‘traditional' choice and they do it (very) well. All of the dishes that we sampled were fresh and well presented. The mezze shared starter was excellent. Four steaks were then ordered, two sirloin and two fillets cook three different ways. So often it is served not as asked…these were all perfect a credit to the kitchen. Service proved was good overall and our waitress was both friendly and helpful. Prices overall whilst not cheap were reasonable for the quality of food service and location.Looking forward to the return visit already.
