A unique experience!

We have been dining at this restaurant for the past 15 years and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal. Yes it could do with a touch of redecoration but the homely feel makes a pleasant change to these sterile no atmosphere "modern" restaurants. The service is friendly and the food superb - all with delicious sauces we have eaten in France (perhaps the other reviewer needs to venture further than Calais!) Snails have been on the menu for as long as we've been dining there. Long live Joyce and Alain!

remarkable restaurant!

Our evening at L'Escargot in Herne Bay was indeed memorable! It ranks as one of the worst restaurant meals ever. The decor is desperately outdated, the service intrusive, 'Bon Appetit!!' and the food simply awful! Please Gordon Ramsey give this place a make-over! We didn't think the food was good value and the house wine, a blend of wine from the european community (UGH) was sulphurous and unpleasant. How people can return for second helpings I simply can't understand, it reminds me of everything bad about the 70s, oily tired menu masquerading as french cuisine. Please Monsieur and Madame Besmoulin, hop over to France for the day and see how the French are doing it now in 2009 and don't mislead the good people of Herne Bay into thinking this is French cooking at its best

Excellent Sunday Lunch

My friends and I had not been back to L 'Escargot for some years but it always provided excellent value for money and charming hosts. Mme and Mr Besmoulin have been serving excellent food from this restaurant for more than 25 in a constantly high standard from a tiny kitchen. The one thing that is rarely on the menu and is conspicuous by its absence is its name sake the humble snail. If you have a chance of dining her do not pass it up - try their light and fluffy Beignet de Fromage with a Mango Coulis or their delicious Tarragon Chicken breast with a beautifully conceived sauce. Soak in the relaxed atmosphere as Madame Besmoulin serves you with her inimitable style and charm. A great place to wine and dine in Herne Bay - cultural home to the Little Britain Cast for 3 series.
