Not smooth - but not all their fault

We wanted an all encompassing local company that cared about what we wanted and would see that the design was implemented to completion. We were happy to pay a little more for this service and overall we found it with Hunter Brook. Howard is a great salesman and gives you complete confidence that he understands your needs. We were complete novices when it comes to refurb and were expecting that the detail we had discussed in the design was going to be followed through to completion without too much intervening from ourselves. How niave eh? In hindsight like any firm that does a job they are not mind readers so you can't trust them to get it right. Hunter Brook at the time were going through a huge growth phase and I think we sufferred as a result of that growth. Paul, the project manager, is constantly stretched and often failed to call back or turn up. The contractors they used were pretty good at cleaning up after themselves and showed some good quality workmanship. We had our ups and downs and a 3 week project turned into 3 months however most of this was because we asked for the bath to be reordered after a deck mounted tap drilling misunderstanding. We accepted equal blame in this and Paul and Howard came around to see us and assured us our best interests were all they were concerned with. To be fair, they are genuinely good people who do care about their customers and providing quality workmanship. We are delighted with the final outcome and we had some technically challenging stuff with wet rooms and fiddly mosaic tiles. It looks stunning. We'd paid up the balance and Paul was still coming back for the finishing touches free of charge, no quibles on the snag list - it was all done. We learnt lots on this journey so if you've done this thing before you can't go wrong with this company. If you haven't make sure you tell them you need hand holding every step of the way and that means from design to minute detail.
