Restaurant - Italian in Baldock

Visited the restaurant on Thursday evening whilst passing through the area. The female host was charming and obviously well known by the locals who appear to love the place. Other members of staff not quite on the ball though. A delivery of very stale bread was not a good introduction and proved to be an indicator of the overall standards. Starter of roasted vegetables covered with cheese was pleasant enough, but a little bland. Mains of Pasta with cream & mushroom and fish platter were ok, but not exceptional. Pasta was chewy not al-dente and hence the large portion proved a chore to finish and not a pleasure. Fish platter was ok, but portions were on the small side, with 3 muscles, 2 prawns & tiny portions of swordfish & salmon. Desserts were ignored, due to the fact that nothing eaten before had inspired us to try these. I'm sure the locals love it, however the charming female host needs to tighten the ship before it wastes the attractive surroundings.
