The Friends of Lister Hospital raise money to support the staff and patients of the Lister Hospital by providing comforts that would not ordinarily be provided by the trust. Although we are based in the Lister we also support satellite clinics and facilities throughout North Hertfordshire.

We have a focus on the care for the elderly but consider general requests from all areas of the trust.

We are always looking to recruit new members to serve on the executive committee and have a monthly meeting that takes place on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM

How we support the Lister Hospital and the surrounding areas.

The Friends of Lister Hospital is a charitable organisation that has been around for over 50 years. We started out life as the "League of Friends of the Lister Hospital" but in the last year we changed our name to the more accessible and easily remembered "Friends of Lister Hospital".

We raise money by holding stalls where we sell bric-a-brac, books and knit ware. Our stalls are usually situated in the main concourse of the hospital but we have been known to go further afield. We also hold corridor collections and have a wishing well into which the public may throw coins.

We receive requests for funding from the various parts of the hospital or the surrounding community and decisions are made by a committee consisting of our volunteers.

In the past we have funded some high value medical equipment like the two bladder scanners in use by the Urology department. We have also funded 'comfort kits' consisting of toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and wet wipes. These are particularly useful for people that are unexpectedly admitted to the hospital and who haven't had the chance to pack such items.

More recently we felt that we could have a bigger impact by concentrating on elderly care and this tends to be our area of focus although we consider requests from other parts of the hospital.

We are always hoping to attract new volunteers; if you feel you might be able to attend our monthly meeting and donate some time during the month to collect money on our behalf we would very much like to hear from you.
