Astoundingly poor value at El Castello

I tried this place a few years back when it opened and we vowed never to go again again as it was astonishly expensive for very ordinary food. Well, it hasn't changed. My friend and I went in for a light lunch- just a snack really. Very small portions, an omelette and a meatball dish, plus two pieces of white bread. I had a glass of wine, my friend had a water. The bill came to £20.15 and there was a strong hint when we paid that we should add more for a tip- that's how the wording came up on the pine machine. I thought the price utterly over the top for a very ordinary little snack and am just glad we said no to deserts or coffees or we would have been in second mortgage territory. Avoid at all costs as the costs are great!

Have been to El Castello's many times for birthday meals as well as family treats but sadly am always disappointed. The prices are very high, the food ranges from nice to just ok but the attitude of the staff is the killer..they are rather stuck up and get something wrong every time I've been there - often spoiling someone meal. It is rare they will apologise for this and will often get quite rude. It's a shame as it could be a much nicer place to eat. Also be warned that if you are looking for a nice, intimate meal for two, you may well be stuck out in the middle of the floor on a tiny table crammed into the aisle where you are constantly knocked into - have had this a few times now and really spoils the evening.

Good local pizzeria

Good food and great site - can be noisy when it's busy though and hard to have a conversation. That said, it's original and independent. It's being bullied by Pizza Express, who've recently opened up next door, so defo needs supporting.

Good value quality Italian

This differs from your standard pizza restaurant in the quality of its menu. A wide range of pizzas and pastas is available, but also a selection of alternative Italian dishes and salads. Their risottos cannot be beaten, in my opinion! Prices are reasonable, and the staff are very friendly and willing to help in any way they can. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and is as conducive to a romantic meal for two as for a large get-together with friends. Families are welcome, with a children's menu, smaller versions of main menu dishes and colouring sheets for little ones. Highly recommended!
