Some of our friends do harp on about how fantastic it is here at the bella pais and we have been more than once so we can say that it is ok, but it is not fancy and the waiting staff are not particularly good at what they do, average at best I guess. The decoration could do with some very serious up dating and soon. There are fake oak beams, and it is rather stuck in a style that was fashionable many years ago.It does get busy, has lots of loyal fans and seems to be making its money, when we have been it has filled up as the evening has gotten later, mind you it is a small place so it does not take much to pack it out.

Have been to the Bella Pais on the odd evening and it has been ok. It is a bit old fashioned in side and the staff are average but the food is good and we have always enjoyed our meals there. The steaks have been tender but are not the cheapest as you have to add on your side orders but other wise not too bad. They do some nice dips as starters with pitta bread. It is on st johns road and is easy to find.

The bella pais formerly greek owned restaurant is on st johns street in colchester, quite near to the multi story car parks in town. When we visited the place was almost empty and the humpy waiter said, oh you have not booked, we may not have a table for you. The restaurant had only a very few customers at the time and we nearly left right then. But we stayed and had the moussaka, which was good and a steak. The steak came on its own and you had to order extra items such as chips, veg, or salad. This certainly put the price up a lot so be aware of this and budget for it. It was ok, we had a nice night out, but the service and added cost of so called extras is a total put off.
