About

Selmeston Turf Co

Selmeston Turf is a 3rd generation family run business established in 1951. We produce a home grown quality product freshly cut to order at affordable, competitive prices, serving the South East trade and domestic customers. We also supply Bark, Topsoil and Compost. We try to make the whole turf-buying process as simple as possible, which is why you'll find before, during and after pages. On these pages you will find advice about how to prepare your land for the new turf, how exactly it will all happen, and just as importantly, how to keep the new turf looking good. All turf is grown locally on our farms with a mix of lawn grass seed, particularly suited for soil in the South East. Selmeston Turf has over 50 years of experience in growing turf. Topsoil is supplied loose by the cubic metre. It is delivered in tipper Lorries or available for collection from our yard by arrangement. We stock two types of topsoil: We stock grass seed in 10 and 20kg bags. It is a hard wearing lawn mixture with hybrid Ryegrass that will establish rapidly. It is Ideal for general purpose landscaping and lawns. It contains only turf type perennial ryegrass 40% and creeping red fescue 60%. We supply a laying and landscaping service. Ground preparation is vital to the future of your new lawn. Unprepared ground will never give satisfactory results. Existing turf should be moved by cutting under with a spade, then rotovate or turn soil over to a depth of 15cm (6 inches). Ensure the area is free of any debris, stones, weeds or old turf. Rake and tread the surface to produce a firm level bed. Feed prior to turfing with a general fertilizer, raking into the fine tilth.
