Having popped in here for lunch recently, we found the place to be very good indeed. The food and service were both very good and the atmosphere was very friendly.A three course lunch for around the £12 mark was, I thought, excellent value.I'd have no hesitation in recommending this place to friends and family.

i booked a table for 10 for a get together with friends. the food as always was amazing, and although the restaurant was busy the staff were attentive. i always recommend this restaurant to all my friends, although its a drive out its always worth the journey. i had smoked haddock starter which was rich and creamy and chicken for my main, beautifully cooked and succulant. and as always the choc pudding is to die for!!!highly recommended, and worth the wait if the are busy.

Went on a Saturday night fully booked (as you would expect) but it felt as if it were the first time the restaurant had ever been full. There appeared to be only 2 very young people serving the whole restaurant and as polite and pleasant as they were the service was very erratic. Drinks and starters arrived very promptly bread rolls were offered to the same table twice but at no point to us and then there was over 45 minutes before the main course and then I hadn't even put my knife and fork down and the desert menu was in front of us. The young man apologised for the wait explaining that there was a lot of food to cook in such a small kitchen (haven't the owners been running it for years??) which i found a bizarre excuse and one he seemed to be telling all the other diners. The food was cooked well and tasted very pleasant, presentation was obviously rushed but it was nothing amazing. Would I go again....probably not

Mrs Magellan and I had eaten dinner here a few times before at this small eatery in the village of East Dean on the south coast. This time disaster struck. We wanted to eat at 8.00pm. When reserving a week before, we were told that this was impossible and we had to arrive between 8.15 and 8.30. We arrived at 8.20. At 8.40 the waitress took our order, in my case tomato soup and steak and ale pie. A hearty soup arrived ten minutes later. At 9.30 the main courses still had not arrived. We summoned a waitress. "Another five minutes" she said. At 9.55pm, still no food.So we left. We will not return. More reports please.
