Mark Hix Presents...........Again!!

Hix Oyster and Fish House is the latest of Mark Hix's ventures, and by far the most scenic. Perched high above the Cob at Lyme Regis, looking out over a millpond calm sea as the sun sets....it just makes you crave fish, luckily that's exactly what you get. As we enter the clean, small upper dining area Tamara greeted us with an informal and friendly "No problem" to our apology for being half an hour early. A complimentary amuse of whole prawns, garlic mayo and sour dough bread set the tone... get your fingers in and get peeling.Staters, thank god, are not precarious towers threatening to topple into the splashes of jus but simple, beautiful and perfectly cooked. Mine, sea salad (£10.95) , complete with local oyster (the first I have ever genuinely enjoyed!), carpet shell clams, crab, mussels (so soft) and samphire. MOH tucked into Spider crab (£17.45) with warm buttered toast, the most expensive starter on the menu but in her humble opinion well worth it! The joint main course of a Mixed Grilled Fish for Two (£46.50) , is a seriously eclectic piscine mix, dab (1 whole, beautiful), john dory (2 Whole, soft and sweet), scallops (2 grilled, creamy) , lobster (half, unfortunately a little dry), and sea bream (Large Steak, meaty and delicious, the star of the show), more than enough for two to share, the side of buttered runner beans with mint is a definite must. To finish the obligatory chocolate mousse for her, the look on her face said it all, and a real pudding for me, sweet and sticky plum crumble and thick, thick custard.A really satisfying and above all delicious meal, for the grand total of £120.00 (inc. drinks and a 12.5% discretionary service charge, well worth it, the service is exemplary). Give it a go you wont be disappointed.NBJust notice the map doese not show the correct location, the restaurant is near the top of Cob Hill. park in the public car park at the tnp and walk down about 100m and you'll see the sign on the left.
