I am sorry that Woofquacker had such a bad experience in The Crooked Beam - I eat there nearly every month and I have to say that both the food and the service is excellent. As my review is so different from the other, please let me make it clear that I am not an employee, and neither am I on any sort of commission. I enjoy good food, with friends, in a comfortable environment, and this is why I meet my friends here. The only downside is the parking. Sometimes you do need to park in a nearby residential street. As a vegetarian, they make a huge effort to always have something nice (and not covered in a montain of cheese which is often what restaurants resort to). My partner and friends eat meat, and haven't experienced the issues that Woofquacker is commenting on. I recommend that you try it for yourself, and perhaps we will see some more reviews.

We ate at the Crooked Beam on 20th August 2008 and will not be going there again. Our son's sirloin steak was ordered medium, it came out burnt and un-eatable. For £16.95 you would expect a nice piece of steak. When questioned , we were told that it was char-grilled and it was fine. 80% of the steak was still on the plate when the waitress collected it, no query was raised as to our satisfaction. No apology was offered, the only comment was "well he should have had Chicken then like everybody else". We paid £102.10 for three starters, three main courses and a bottle of Chablis, not cheap for Iford. Don't bother with this place.
