So Expensive now in new hands!

A WAS a loyal customer of SPIRES for over 20 years but since Ian has left and I don't know who has taken over but it has got so expensive there now, I have a dog with a liver shunt so that isn't going to change, same meds, same treatment, same expensive food etc. They now insist on charging me a consultation fee of £18 even though nothing has changed with my dog before they will allow me to have more than a weeks supply of tablets. I've decided to look for a new vet as it seems that Spires has lost what we used to love about it and gone the way that a lot of other vets have and just in it for the money. Go in Spires now and it's all smart and new still got the hours of waiting to be seen but now with a hefty consultation fee just for them to tell me that nothing as changed. Thanks but I live with my dog 24 hours a day and could have told you that for nothing!

Caring vets

I can honestly say Spire vets genuinely have the most kind, caring, friendly warming vets iv ever been to. The only down fall is one of the receptionists. She is extremely rude and ignorant and would prefer to stand gossiping, (which looks cold hearted and unprofessional), then to deal with animal owners That are more than likely upset and emotional... I have been coming to spire vets for a good few years and recommend people I know love there animals. Not only are there prices amazing, the vets genuinely do take an interest.. I recently have changed vets due to the attitude of the receptionist... I recommended spire vets to my friend who was in an emergancy, her dog was giving birth and a puppy got stuck. My friend rang spire vets and was obviously crying and upset. The rude receptionist answered and said we couldn't take the dog there because the dog wasn't registered there, which was totally understandable, so we asked if we could come and register the dog now, she refused, said we wasn't able to do That and had terrible attitude, no sympathy or any care that the puppy and dog could die. We rang the next closest vet, they got us in straight away and let us register there and then with no problems... Now it wasn't so much the refusal, it was more the attitude and the sharp nasty tone we got. She didn't care my friend was crying and heartbroken and obviously panicing, she didn't care the puppy would die, she didn't even care that the dog could die. I find this upsetting and cruel. She ruins spirevets reputation and makes it look like no one who works there cares. Has anyone else had the attitude and rudeness my friend and I got? Vets 5 stars. Receptionist 1, it ruins the whole persona of the vets. It's stressful enough taking your animal to the vets, the negativity makes it even more so.

When my kitten got ran over earlier this year I had to go to the emergency vet at 1 in the morning, the woman was lovely and so helpful. She was operated on the next day and everything was explained so clearly to me and I was kept updated. She developed a complication after surgery, not due to anything done wrong just one of those things, and again the vets were so helpful and sorted her out. I wasnt charged for her stitches being removed or any changing of bandages or anything, and I know another vets that charged £23 a time for this! Everytime I was concerned about anything even though I may have been worried about nothing they always told me to bring her down even 5 minutes before closing time and she was always seen and my mind put at ease. Bruce was fantastic and I can't thank them enough for saving my little kitten's life. They really care about the animals not just in it for the money, they couldnt have done enough, I would never go anywhere else.

I travel a long way to go to Spire Vets and I do so because they are fantastic. I breed micro pig s and Raquel does all my spays and castrations for my pigs. I have had bad experiences with other vet practices but I love Spire. I would not go anywhere else for any of my animals and Raquel is absolutely wonderful.

One of our OES had a heart attack this morning, dealt with kindly and efficiently by Bruce, Seems to be on the mend. Only been with this practice 4 years but have nothing but praise for them, would like an appointment system, but cant have everything. Not at all expensive either, our other OES was spayed and had 4 mamory tumers removed, cost under £200

I have always been to Spires for my own animals, and I have always been satisfied with their service. It was until I went for work experience did I realise how much of a family they are, and the level of passion each employee has for their job. All the Vets gave their clients full explanations about their diagnostics on their pets (which helped me learn at the same time), they have an appointment system that benefits people who need an emergency appointment, and their prices are extremely reasonable. Some would think that the place is dirty, when they don't know how often I helped mop the floor, washed my hands, and cleaned anything in general. Looks can be deceiving. I would much rather be with this small Vets of nice local people, than a huge company that treat people like dirt. I would recommend this Vets to anybody.

I previously used pets at home vets and nearly lost my dog with a mis diagnosed pyometra the young vet thought she was having extended season the 2nd vet noticed her mistake and operated immediatly with a lot of appologising, i put this down to a training one off and continued to use them,we had our 2nd dog spayed at pets at home chesterfield, when they eventually let her come home she was very ill far too much anaesthetic, her stitches were bleeding a little but they said she was fine, she was unable to move all night and still very drowsy at midnight her stitches burst bleeding slowly at first then after a few minutes unravelled bursting wide open,i rang pets at home expecting an on call vet the very rude woman i was put through to said i needed to take her to the other side of sheffield miles away i explained how bad she was and the woman said the quicker i put the phone down the quicker i would get there!!! no local vets were available from them, i rang my dads vet IAN TAYLOR at spire and he calmly told me how to wrap her wound and bring her quickly to his surgery. this wonderful caring man and his wife got out of bed and drove over in the middle of the night without question, he was afraid to put her under again as she had obviuosly had a lot already and was barely awake but he had no choice, he did a fantastic job of stitching her up and saving her life and thankfully she came round with the reversal ok, she is now 5yrs old and very healthy with a very small scar, No this surgery isnt all modern and squeeky clean but ian taylor is the best vet there is and i would definatly recommend him to everybody and so would my lovely rottie who i know would have died without his help.

Overall, this is a very good vetinary practice. Yes, its not the cleanest of places! But, the staff are incredibly helpful, and are clearly in it for the love of the animals, rather than the love of money like a lot of vets these days! It is incredibly good value for money, i think its only £12 for a consultation fee, compared to over £20 which seems to be around the norm! Been using these vets for many years, they always appear to know what they're talking about! Am a very satisfied customer of theirs!

Great Practice

Used Spire vets for number of years. Never found staff to be ignorant only helpful. Never found any of the rooms to be FILTHY nor practice smelling like a badly kept rescue centre nor have I noticed any class structure. Everybody appears to be seen on a strict rota system. At the prices charged I cannot see how they are 'milking off' anyone. This is a charge which could be laid at the door of many a vets practice with much more justification. The negative comments say much more about the repondents lack of patience rather than truthful objectivity. I have no complaints with the practice to date and have recommended it to a number of people. From personal experience I have never found an appointment system that works. Usually you are forced to wait beyond your appointed time. At least with a drop in system you can make a decision on whether to stay or go without inconveniencing either the vet or any other user.

Went for an opinion on a dog and although it was turn up and wait...everything ran smoothly and we were seen in turn and the outcome was very positive. If you want luxury at luxury prices, go elsewhere...if you want an honest opinion at honest prices..this place is fine...and I`m sure the animals don`t mind the place either.

No Idea how to run a business

Cant write everything as limited. Told to go for 9am, got there at 8.55 and place was full. No appointments just turn up and wait. Seems the surgery is one step up from the PDSA. Staff are ignorant AT BEST and look at you as if you have 3 heads. The rooms are FILTHY. I went in a room thats to the right of the main door and there was blood splatters on a fridge in there. If you are paying or insured, go somewhere else as the 2 hour wait to be seen isnt worth it. They have no appointment system so you have to turn up and wait. Thats ok if you dont work but I think this is the clientelle they are going for for some reason.
