The Worst Meal I Have Ever Eaten - AVOID

First of all - beware fake reviews of "The Dog & Partridge Country Inn" at Swinscoe, nr. Derby. Nobody could possibly leave this premises with a glad heart, yet the web is full of fake reviews posted by management / staff making it out to be a 5* hotel. It's 2* - and it should be zero star / closed down. How Derbyshire County Council permits this place to remain open beggars belief.(with much regret, I have to give it 1* on this review, I'm not allowed to give it zero stars)I work as a commercial restaurant equipment sales traveller, I have eaten in the worst and best eateries in Britain. In May 2009, my colleague and I spotted the "Country Inn" whilst passing early one evening, and thought a spot of Traditional fare would be nice.Bad mistake.....We were in a hurry, we ordered food as soon as we entered the premises, then sat down with a drink. Bad move. The "pub" was stacked to the ceiling with Childrens games, it made the place look tacky and seedy. Children / toddlers belonging to staff were running about screaming.A broken oak table had been botched together with plywood, and the whole place was deserted.I ordered gammon and chips, it was the only thing on a very poor menu for less than £12. One of the landlords kids came right over to the plate, stuck his finger right into it, pointing out something or other. The gammon was some cheap cut from a backstreet butcher, salty and hairy. The chips were passable. The peas were out of a tin, and inedible.Everything in the eatery was grubby, the floor needed a vacuum, dead flies on the windowsills. A couple came in, ordered a drink. The husband said he could taste beer line cleaner from it and they left without paying. We heard that, we abandoned our meal, paid. £30 out of pocket for poor food. To add insult to injury, as we left, my colleague saw something darting out as he reversed his car. There was a thump. He said something about hitting a dog or a cat, jumped out to inspect. It was without question, the biggest rat I have ever seen, we even emailed the image to Derbyshire Environmental Health, asking them to inspect the premises. They weren't impressed. We found a great Fish + Chip shop in Derby, cost us £4.90 each, much better fare.Forget Alton Towers deals, ignore the pretty picture on the website. The Dog & Partridge Country Inn at Swinscoe place is a dump - stay away from it.Rip-off Britain at its best.

Visited this pub last weekend as it was near where we were staying. We ordered off the a la carte menu and were not impressed with what arrived. The potato's in my curry tasted like ones out of a tin, my small naan bread was obviously shop bought and cold as was the onion bhajee and no pickles as per menu. My partner was equally unimpressed with his game pie. The 2 main courses cost us £27.00 which was well over priced for the quality. There wasn't a huge selection of beer to choose from either, 2 to be precise and 1 went off whilst we were there.Only plus I would give is the nice warm bread they brought us before our meal. Service was average.
