Excellent Food and the service could not be faulted. We've eaten at some good restaurants but this has to be one of the best.Considering the level of service and quality of food the prices were quite reasonable.Would definitely recommend.

The worst christmas party i ever had.....

Service

Quality

Value

We decided to have our Christmas party this year at the 39 steps as it was a local well established restaurant; however what ensued was nothing short of appalling. I was 1 of 2 pregnant women attending the Christmas doo and enticed by the prospect of traditional Christmas fair as opposed to the usual Chinese or Italian restaurants i had built up this meal in my mind for quite some time. It wasn't until we sat down for our lunch that I realised something was amis, my bronzed turkey which promised nothing but succulence was raw, not great considering my pregnant state, thankfully I had not tucked into my meal a fate which my pregnant colleague did be fall which resulted in a very upset stomach for most of the weekend. The other person at our table to received a below par effort on the part of the chef was the managing director she too polite to complain spent the remainder of the dining experience picking around the uncooked parts of flesh before finally admitting defeat. As food in this state could be very harmful to women at both 20 and 30 weeks gestation we decided to send back the meals, the waiter assured us that this would be rectified and new meals brought to us promptly. The two replacement meals arrived shortly after everyone else had finished and it was clear that this second attempt had too fell short of the mark. the turkey was now so hard that I struggled to get my knife through it and the veg appeared to have been show boiling water from a great distance before being plated up and doused in gravy.Like bonnie Tyler once said I was holding out for a hero or a chocolate pud saviour at least alas all I got was a gooey pot of very bitter burnt chocolate sludge some average milky ice cream and some cherries so saturated in brandy that the shock of their taste sent my head spinning. Enough of the food, moving onto the staff....the waiter was pleasant enough although lacking in the Christmas spirit, upon commenting on the closeness of this most festive time of year I was greeted with "it's not Christmas for everyone you know" cheerful. The manager however seemed full of the joys of the season probably elated by the sight of so many people throwing away their hard earned cash on dishes little chef would have been ashamed to serve. When we did raise a complaint he moved very quickly into an almost caricature like impression of Phil Mitchell himself puffing out his chest and lowering his tone to a menacing level.. charming. Needless to say this is not an experience I will be forgetting any time soon and not one I would encourage anyone to try first hand. Bad food, Bad attitudes and by far the worst Christmas meal this company has had in years.
