About Us

Jersey Lavender is a family-run business. We grow, harvest and distil lavender to produce pure lavender essential oil. This lavender oil is the key ingredient in our range of toiletry and perfume products. Rosemary, eucalyptus, bay laurel and cypress are also grown and distilled on the farm and their oils are used in the same way.
We are very much a working farm but each year, over a busy nineteen-week season, we welcome many thousands of visitors to see the spectacle of our lavender fields in flower. (See our Visit the Farm section for details). They see how we harvest and process the lavender, learn about its many uses, and all while enjoying the peacefull setting of our gardens and woods.

Our aim is to offer quality and a personal service in all we do. I very much enjoy being on site, chatting to visitors, answering their questions and helping my staff with their various roles around the farm. I believe that a business of our nature is not often seen these days - family-run and with the fascinating goal of taking our agricultural crop right through the processing stages, directly to our valued customers.

Background

The story of Jersey Lavender goes back to 1983 when my parents inherited a disused dairy farm. Too young to retire, they wanted to bring the land back to life and, after extensive research, decided to grow lavender as an agricultural crop and to develop a business around it. St. Brelade in Jersey has free-draining, sandy-loam soil and a mild climate, providing perfect growing conditions for lavender.

The first 25,000 rooted cuttings - three varieties of Lavandula angustifolia - were carefully planted out in the fields later that year and Jersey Lavender was born.

Lavender Fields

The first harvest was taken in 1986. The essential oil was extracted in the purpose-built distillery and a small range of products was developed, with the lavender oil at their heart. The aim was that as much of the manufacturing, filling and packaging as possible should be done on the farm.

In 1987 the farm opened to the public, with a wooden shed as a shop. It was such a success that a couple of years later the current, octagonal café and shop were built.


Since then Jersey Lavender has grown steadily and the passion for lavender has developed. Additional varieties of lavender have been added to the field stock and the acreage of lavender has doubled. We have expanded the range of products and now supply numerous retail outlets on the Island. We have set up a mail order business to cater for the frequent requests for products from the UK and abroad, and also developed an online shop presence.

In 2002 my parents retired so I decided to come to Jersey with my wife and family to take things over. With a background in Chemistry and in the UK fragrance industry I felt I was well-equipped to make valuable contributions to the business as well as being able to use my knowledge and experience in a productive and fulfulling way.

The Distillery, where you can watch and learn about the fascinating processes of extracting essential oils from plants.

9 acres of stunning swathes of lavender, in flower from early June to late July/early August.

Beautiful gardens with a wide variety of plants, trees, herbs and bamboos, in a peaceful and serene setting. Swings for children (and adults).

Discovery Nature Trail - a fun trail around the farm with some questions to answer. Great for kids and adults.

Getting Here - We are in the south west of the island, close to St.Brelade beach and the airport.
