About the Game keepers Lodge

The Gamekeepers Lodge has a long history in the town, formally known as The Griffin it was first Licensed as a Public House in about 1864, however it was in 1998 when Shay Comaskey took over that it started to become The Gamekeepers as we all know it, as Shay put his personality and style into the building, Pat started in 1999 as head chef and together as a team they built The Gamekeepers into how it is today. During this period as a team they managed to secure community pub of the year awards several times, and The Gamekeepers became the birthplace of Chesham Museum, which only came about because Shay loaned them the use of the small stable block in the car park, Chesham Museum is now a fully fledged charity with it's own premesis in the High Street and is going from strength to strength, The Gamekeepers also had the honour of hosting the American Military for the day when they came to Chesham to visit the one of the sites of preparation for the D Day landings, this as far as we know is the only time the Stars and Stripes flag was flown from the building, we were awarded a medal of excelence for services to the American Military which still hangs on the wall today. Shay sadly passed away in 2010 however he insisted on being buried whithin sight of his beloved pub so he could keep an eye on it. The Gamekeepers was then run for a while by his son Oli, who decided to leave in September 2013, it was at this time that we decided to take the reins ourselves, and with the help of Punch Taverns our take over was recently completed with a refurbishment, while we have made some changes to the Pub we like to think that what Shay put into the Gamekeepers is still here, and we intend to keep it that way, and bring the pub back into the community were it belongs.
