Person specification – what we're looking for...

There are no set criteria, but the following qualities will certainly help you in the role.
A positive and enthusiastic approach
Good communications skills and an ability to be able to get on with people from all backgrounds.
A polite, patient and helpful manner – you will be helping people who may struggle to organise things for themselves.
Confidence to be able to approach and speak to people you may not know either informally one to one or occasionally in groups.
Persuasion, persistence and the ability to deal with knock backs when spreading the benefits of Storemates – as not everyone will be convinced (!)
Organisational skills – you will be helping some people to plan and organise their storage arrangements.
Literacy, numeracy, and basic IT literacy (you will need to learn about how to use the Storemates Website)
A willingness to approach yours and other peoples networks in order to seek out potential Storage seekers and providers.
Honesty and integrity - as this is a position of trust.
(Please note that as the role entails dealing with peoples personal belongings we may ask for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check to be completed, the results of which may not necessarily preclude you from participating, we will assess each case individually. What is Storemates?

The Storemates website enables households to safely rent out some of their extra space to people locally looking for affordable storage space locally. People can list available space such as their attic, garage, spare room or even shed for free. Storage seekers use the site to search for suitable space in their area as an alternative to self storage.
The site provides a range of guidelines and resources (like a legal contract) to ensure both parties are protected. Storemates takes a small fee from the storage provider equivalent to two weeks rent once a suitable match is found and their rental earnings start to come in. So it's a win win situation all around

Exhanging Storage

Exchanging Storage for Services.
Taking the concept further you can even exchange storage space for an offer of a regular service (instead of or part of a rental fee).
evaFor example Eva an elderly homeowner, stores student Martin's extra books in her spare room and his bike in her shed. In return Martin mows her lawn and takes out her rubbish on a weekly basis. No money changes hands but both help each other out and both have developed an invaluable neighbourly relationship based on mutual benefit and trust. Martin and Eva, though both from different backgrounds have become the perfect Storemates.
This is just one example, there are many other services you could request or offer in exchange for storage space.

If you exchange storage for services, only the minimum admin fee of £10 will apply (i.e. equivalent of £5 x 2 weeks)
