Fun, friendly but perhaps a little ordinary...
Having stumbled on this place after finding 'Nutmeg' down the road closed and crumbling, Goya delighted our party with witty, friendly service.Our Spanish was much improved by the attentive waiters, but there seems to be an issue with sugar in this restaurant: the Sangria was too sweet for my taste, and the 'crema' that arrived for dessert must have had an inch of uncarmalised sugar on it. The rest of our tapas was ample, served quickly and tasted fresh.The decor is simple and atmospheric. Try and get one of the alcove tables downstairs if you can: very cosy.

Tapas in Spain
Run by spaniards and frequented by spaniards I really like this tapas bar. Although it will formalise the proceeding downstairs for people who want to sit, order and eat in english fashion, the best way to do this place is upstairs. Just order as a when and enjoy the company you have brought or listen to the babbling repartie between customers and staff.Last time I was there the demure barmaid leapt out from behind the bar and used her diminuitive frame to usher out someone who may have had too much sangria - hilarious. All with an opera of spanish.All the classics are on the menu patatas bravas, chorizo, gambas etc. For bigger eats have the paella downstairs.

Mediocre At Best
Call me a Spanish food snob if you must. I'm an American, but I've lived in Spain, and for all of the Spaniards working here, they ought to be able to do a better job.I used to work in this neighbourhood, and would occasionally be coerced into going for lunch.I could forgive them if it was just the Pulpo a la Gallega that was not great -- fresh octopus is really hard to come by in London. However, Tortilla de Patatas is the simplest of Spanish dishes to do and should work anywhere, and inexplicably theirs does not. It tastes like microwaved cardboard with onions.Other plates are hit-or-miss... they manage not to do too much harm to the chorizo, and as for paella -- well, I'm not a huge fan in general, but I'm definitely not a fan here.Unless you're right in the neighbourhood and really have a jones for Spanish, I'd give it a miss.
