About us

Our practice offers high standards of care for pets and peace of mind for owners. We are committed to promoting and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.

Our Opening Times are Mon - Fri 8.30-9.30 and 4pm-6pm

We have followed a range of standards for hygiene, staff training, 24-hour emergency cover, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures. We are also subject to spot-checks from the organisation which controls the use of veterinary drugs. We are proud of our practice and keen to ensure that it provides you and your pets with an excellent standard of veterinary care.

Our Staff

We are also keen to look after our staff. The staff are our greatest asset and for the practice to succeed everyone has to perform well. To achieve this, people need the right knowledge, skills and motivation to work efficiently. This is why we set and monitor certain criteria in order to improve performance and realise objectives through effective management and development of staff.

History of the practice

After starting with a single surgery in Mountain Ash, the Ash Veterinary Group now consists of four surgeries, located in Merthyr Tydfil, Mountain Ash, Treharris and Ystradgynlais.

Ash Veterinary Surgery started in 1990, with Mike Jessop as the sole veterinary surgeon and two support staff to help him. Nick Hatton joined him in 1991 and Rachel Thomas became the third partner in May 2008. In May 2014, the practice incorporated, becoming a limited company as MYM, trading as Ash Veterinary Surgery.

Ash Veterinary Surgery is the trading name of The MYM Partnership Ltd. Company Number 07287124. The Registered Office is Ash Veterinary Group, Aberdare Rd, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 1AT. The Directors are Nick Hatton, Mike Jessop & Rachel Thomas.

The practice now has six vets and employs six vets and fifteen support staff. There is over one hundred and twenty years of veterinary experience within the veterinary team and over one hundred years of veterinary nursing experience.

All of the team regularly attend continuing professional development courses to ensure that they are well informed about recent developments The practice offers the most up to date operating procedures, equipment and treatments.
