About us

A long established university (founded in 1884) and dedicated to academic excellence.
We have over 10,000 students, 23 academic Schools grouped in to 6 Colleges and over 650 teaching staff.
Bangor is rated top in Wales and is in the top 15 of UK universities for teaching excellence according to the Sunday Times University Guide 2012, (Sept 2011).
The University consistently performs well in student surveys: Bangor ranked 14th in the UK in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2011 and has been placed in the top 10 for the WhatUni? Student Choice Awards in Accommodation 2011.
A £20m redevelopment of the campus has taken place, including a £10m business and management centre and a building for environmental sciences.
To meet the high demand of contemporary living accommodation the University in recent years has opened new halls of residence as part of a £35M upgrade at the Ffriddoedd Site.

Bangor

Bangor is consistently ranked as on of the most economical places to study in the UK in various cost-of-living surveys and, according to The Independent's A-Z of Universities and Higher Education Colleges, Bangor is "one of the cheapest places in Britain" to be a student.
We are working with business and industry on the development of a £40m Arts and Innovation Centre - Pontio - which will include a theatre, studio theatre, exhibition spaces and a new Students' Union.
Also.high profile projects such as CAST (Centre for Advanced Software Technology) at Parc Menai, Bangor and the Technium OpTIC at St Asaph Business Park.
We have close links with the NHS in Wales. The University is a major provider of training and education for the NHS and is also one of the main partners in the North Wales Clinical School.
As a major provider of teacher training in Wales, we have close links with schools, local education authorities and the teaching profession.
We have one of the largest widening access programmes in the country called the Talent Opportunities Programme involving over 1500 pupils in schools across North Wales.
We are involved in the Reaching Higher, Reaching Wider programme operating in the region.
We have one of the largest Peer Guiding schemes.
Our Careers and Employability Service is recognised nationally as being one of the most active careers services in the UK.
