Luxury in the heart of the scottish countryside, situated near the historic towns of Biggar and Lanark, yet within 40 min drive of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Our five star cottages are within 10 mins from West Calder train station.
The Murehall, part of the ancient farming lands of Carnwath, has its origins in the early 16th century. The land had been granted under Royal charter by James IV of Scotland to the Somervell family when the farmhouse and cottages would have housed the Laird and the farm workers. Some of the remarkable features of the renovated cottages include the massive, solid oak trusses and the beams throughout and the handmade log beds. The original stone has been used in the refurbishment and the stone fireplaces have been rebuilt using finely finished sandstone and South African granite.
The Shire originally built to house the shire horses, has a handmade breakfast bar with open plan kitchen, the downstairs bedroom has unusual character feature in its roll top bath with caw feet.the second double bedroom has a balcony that overlooks the feature stone fireplace in the lounge below.
The Hayloft as the name suggests, this is where the mown hay was stored. As you enter the Hayloft your eye is immediatley taken by the wood bridge between the two upstairs bedrooms. There is an open plan kitchen dining area with a one of a king Elm Burr tree trunk table.
The Ruin is the most spacious cottage has been transformed from the 16th century derelict ruin into a particularly bright and airy bungalow syle cottage. The slate floor entrance leads into a spacious kitchen and dining area with patio doors and a view into the garden. The unique stone archway leads into a seperate lounge with a stylish open fire topped with a chunky log mantlepiece.
The Byre accessed through a hand made stable door, the German woodburning stove meets you as you enter the open plan kitchen/lounge.The staircase with a ranch style balustrade leads up to a bedroom with fuul sizedormer window, maximising the view over the farm and the valley to the South.

Wonderful property-Huge accomodation! The four of us enjoyed our very own holiday house at the end of all our sightseeing journeys. The Muirhall family was wonderful and helpful with directions as a back up for our GPS. Our cottage was so clean and well appointed that we really felt at home. The location worked well for us close to trains and minutes from cities. many thanks for a great week.
