Black mark for White

Buyer beware - this dealer had a good reputation, but has trashed it. I bought a car from White as a birthday present for my daughter. At first, he was charming, even delivering the car with ribbons on, but a month later his veneer cracked after the car's engine management light came on. An inspection by an independent workshop revealed a number of faults, including an EGR valve requiring replacement. According to White, the car was under six-month warranty, but when I reported the fault to Scotsure, they insisted the vehicle was not covered because White had failed to register it with them. He offered to have the car repaired, but ignored the independent report, insisting the valve needed cleaning, not replacing. I then took the car to a garage of his choice who claimed they cleaned it. The other faults were attended to in piecemeal fashion, when and where White chose. Weeks later, the management light came on again. I sought the opinion of a second independent mechanic, who revealed the EGR valve had not been cleaned, and in fact was beyond repair. Not willing to risk the car breaking down while my daughter was driving and alone, I paid for its replacement. I then approached White with pictures of the filthy and broken valve. Assuming he had paid to have it cleaned, I expected him to express at least some disappointment. Instead, he reneged on all responsibility on the grounds he no longer dealt with the offending repairer. If he had been misled by him, he didn't care, and the fact my daughter was the ultimate victim of deception bothered him even less. I had paid for a proper repair so, according to him, I had "shot my bolt". White belongs to an age when the customer was always wrong. When challenged, he oozes arrogance. He insists he doesn't care about attracting bad publicity, in which case, he won't mind this.
