Well where do i start? After taking delivery of a £2500 Ekornes 2 seater settee we were horrified to discover there was delivery damage to the suite. I contacted Macdonald to inform them and that we wanted to reject it and reorder, they advised that this was not possible and i would have to except a repair!!! Luckily i took advice from trading standards and they were amazed that this store was totally misadvising its customers of the legal rights. It took trading standards to intervene and we agreed to an independent inspection from Fira, which when completed confirmed the delivery damage etc. As I had taken up interest free credit with this item, trading standards had also informed me of their joint liability for the purchase. So with their influence and a FIRA report confirming the delivery damage Macdonald furniture (aka Forest Furniture) finally agreed to refund me my deposit and the 0% finance agreement was cancelled. A happy ending but rest assured if you had bought from almost any other furniture retailer would have ensured that the customer was not treated like this and would have certainly not blatantly tried to ignore its liability with ref to the sale of goods act. A total of 4 days off work and no real apology from MacDonald Furniture. I did some research into this company and was horrified to discover Companies house only gives them 1/2 stars which equates CLOSE TO INSOLVENCY. That may be an explanation for their shocking Customer care. A good sound company like Gillie’s of Broughty Ferry gets five stars To summarise don’t buy from here unless you want shocking customer care and misadvise. Stick with good companies like John Lewis etc that do.
