Cafes and Snack Bars in Edinburgh

I always used to think this place was pretty good, but I visited it recently and was quite disappointed. They are really trading on the fact that JK Rowling wrote there, and in the past they have won best cafe awards etc, but I didn't think it was worth the hype. When we arrived a staff member was smoking right outside the door which looks pretty awful and stinks to walk through. Service was pretty unfriendly and almost rude when we ordered. We found a table and sat down but it wasn't really properly clean - no dirty dishes on it, but it was covered in salt or sugar. Then we could see that our food was ready, but it sat there for about 5 minutes (while the numerous kitchen and counter staff didn't seem to do much) before it was brought to us. The standard of food was average (or slightly below average). A coffee shop with such a good name should be able to deliver something of higher quality in my opinion and as a previous reviewer said there are plenty of other places nearby, with better service which could offer the same thing.

This place is quite famous for the fact that JK Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book here! Its a quaint place, but I've always found the service quite slow and that they dont necessarily offer anything that other places don't. Also last time I was in, which fair enough it was winter, but it was so cold inside we had to keep our jackets on which did put me off.
