A very smart Edinburgh friend recommended Always Sunday as a fabulous place to go for a casual, but hearty bite to eat. We were not disappointed when we managed to bag the last table on a rainy Sunday recently. The veggie shepherd's pie was incredible and my husband enjoyed a filled to the brim jacket potato with lots of interesting salads. The cakes were even better and as my husband's a coeliac it was really helpful that everything was already labelled with allergy advice. It's been a long time since he was able to go out and enjoy a homemade cake! Thoroughly recommend this gorgeous cafe and can't wait to come back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Had lunch with friends at Always Sunday on Monday and I have to say I wasblown away by the steak pie and pommes gratin! Absolutely delicious and Ican't wait to return (although the steak pie wowed me so much I might onlyever visit when it's on the menu lol).Great atmosphere too, very relaxed and laid back - made for a very enjoyablelunch - thanks!JimPS - how do I tell my dear old mother her steak pie is no longer the best?

Visited for first time today - two adults one child.Food was really good quality and deliciously full of flavour. Absolutely recommend. Background music created calm, quiet, relaxed atmosphere where you can catch a bite to eat and relax and read the paper/drink coffee.Only two small negative aspects:SPACE - was a bit cramped, but the food more than makes up for that negative point!FUSSY CHILD EATERS - no availability of plain food for fussy child such as a simple baked potato with tuna or cheese. This caused us a bit of trauma! It would have been good for the cafe to offer a simple child menu of even just a couple of choices. All in all, top whole scoff, but not for fussy children who don't like anything with 'bits' in!

I love this place, Im a student and I always bring my mum here when she comes up. The food is gorgeous, nothing to fancy or complicated but always delicious, love the deli style chooseing the differnt salads, (esp. sweet potato and spinach). The cakes look fab too and the atmosphere is lovely, as long as you can find a seat mind.

Unfortunatley my girlfriend and I had a very poor experience at this place - the staff initially made us feel very unwelcome and we were served very plain and average food at an unreasonable price. The surroundings however were very nice but there are plenty of better and superior alternatives within a stones throw.

I am the owner of Always Sunday and was really shocked and disappointed to discover that the last reviewer had such a poor opinion of his visit there! Its really important to me that Always Sunday looks, tastes, smells, sounds & feels good - and we frequently receive praise & appreciation, both in person at the cafe and by out-of-the-blue emailed feedback from customers.I would encourge others to at least come in and check us out... the food is displayed counter style so you can choose from what you see... so check out what we offer, what we charge, and what the ambience of the place feels like... then see if you want to stay and enjoy the experience! In any case, enjoy your time in Edinburgh, its a great city!
