On paper The Joymount Arms or "Ownies" as it is more commonly known around town should be the best bar in Carrickfergus. Recently underwent a refit that must have cost an absolute fortune in order to prepare for the smoking ban. The smoking area at the rear of the building is fantastic with an open fire for the winter months, plenty of seating and patio heaters as well as plenty of cover to keep the rain off. Excellent video juke box if you like a bit of backround music with your pint. Good range of domestic and international beers on draft as well as the usual spirts , wine and bottled beer selections. The main drawback is the bad crowd it gathers. Trouble breaks out outside it almost every night. I have even seen one of the bouncers attack a punter, for the punter to then be thrown out. By all means go in during the day - but avoid like the plague at nights and especially weekend nights.

Popular "local" for lunches and evening mealswhich is more than a pub probably best described as a "Gastro Pub".Comfortable old worldy feel to the place and certainly somewhere you can take your family, it has that restaurant within a pub feel to it.The food is fine, you not leave much uneaten unless you're on a strict diet, tends to be more of the good home cooked and wholesome variety; nothing too pretentious on the menu here.
