Last momento of loving pal Jess

ARTIST David Pringle was so touched by the story of Jess - the border collie snatched outside Tesco and then dumped in the River Spen - that he made a portrait of her for her owners. David and his girlfriend Caroline Light, of Morley, heard about Jess through a Facebook page highlighting the tragic story.Jess, who suffered with arthritis, had been left tied up outside the store on January 15 while her owner Ron Bisby called inside to do some shopping. But when he came out, Jess had vanished. Her body was found by police three days later in the river by Mann Dam. Her injuries were consistent with a high fall. The story was first broken by the Spenborough Guardian in January and sparked national outrage. A reward fund was also set up with people all over the country pledging money to try and catch the culprit.David said: "We understood something of what Ron and his wife Enid were going through because we'd just lost our cat Lara."The best way I thought I could help was to offer to paint a portrait of Jess for them. If it helped bring it to the forefront of the public eye and push for a conviction then all the better, but most of all it was to give them something they could cherish."David and Caroline visited the couple at their home in Sykes Street on Monday to present the pastel picture to them - and they were delighted with the results.Enid said: "He's captured her perfectly because in every photograph she has her head tilted to one side. The detail is fantastic."Ron added: "It's absolutely marvellous and he's even managed to capture the glint in her eye."David studied art in advertising at university and works as a marketing manager.* A 25-year-old man, who was arrested in January in connection with the incident, is still on police bail pending further inquiries.
