The Homestead is a private and purposely built residential care home providing specialised care for elderly people suffering from past and present mental illnesses. The Home provides all aspects of care on a twenty-four hour basis. A team of two directors one manager, four deputies and a team of care assistants operate the home. Two cooks, two domestics, two activities co-ordinators and two laundry assistants also form part of the team.
The Home was opened in April 1986 and is registered with Walsall Social Services. It has kept itself ahead with legislation and development within the care industry.
The Homestead is the only residential care home for the mentally ill within the Walsall Borough that has achieved the internationally recognised standard of ISO 9001:2008 and the nationally recognised standard: Investors In people.
All the Staff receive in house and external training relevant to the client's group.
The Homestead is a thirty bedded home. It has:
30 Rooms, eight of which have en-suite facilities
Three lounge areas.

Twelve toilets
All our rooms are attractively furnished. You may like to personalise your rooms with some of your own decorations. Such as - pictures - television - radio. You are welcome to consult with us if you wish to bring in larger pieces of furniture. In order to maintain privacy and dignity we provide bedroom doors with locks.
Service users have use of all the lounges, which have music facilities and where residents can socialise with other residents. A Day Room provides a quiet area where service users can enjoy their own company or that of the visitors if they do not wish to go into their individual rooms.
Service users are able to use a telephone in the main hall of the home or in either lounge areas. Should they need to talk in total privacy, there is a portable phone available that can be used in a quieter area of the home.
To aid in bathing The Homestead has installed a new purpose walk in shower room, which also includes a stool.
For those who prefer a traditional bath we have specially designed bath hoists that will lift service users comfortably and safely into the baths.
There is a choice of breakfast served in the resident's bedroom or in the dining room. A choice of dinner and tea is served in the dining room and special diets are provided for, upon request. Morning and afternoon drinks are served in the lounges. A choice of evening/bedtime drinks are served at times convenient to individual residents. However, residents have access to additional drinks and snacks anytime.
We cater for most tastes including vegetarians and special dietary requirements. We consider the following in the preparation of food served:

We are interested in our residents happiness, and are aware that everyone's emotional well-being requires some degree of social and recreational activity.
How much and what sort of activity depends on the personality and likes and dislikes of the individual person previous hobbies and lifestyles can be facilitated if the care team are made aware of your wants/needs.
Entertainment for service users is provided within the home and outings are arranged on an individual or group basis according to demand such as bingo games, visits to garden centers/Chase Water Park/ Sutton Park and shopping trips. Some of the offerings include musical entertainment, games, knitting and parties. A mobile library visits the Homestead giving the normal facilities of a public library. Church representative's call to attend residents' spiritual needs and arrangements can be made to visit local churches as required.
The service users are encouraged to participate in resident meetings where activities are discussed giving individual service users the opportunity to suggest and decide the types of activities and leisure they would like organised. We feel that it is essential that residents have as much input and discussion into the service that we provide and in the running of their home.
Service users are encouraged to participate in social activities that suit their needs.
Relatives are encouraged to participate in resident's activities.
All clients will be treated with dignity. The worth of the individual must be valued, and his/her uniqueness and individual needs must be respected. It also means treating the resident with respect. Every individual must be able to exercise the right to be left alone or undisturbed and free from intrusion or public attention. This must include his/her personal affairs.
